Implementation

Cutting down or maintaining the proper condition of greenery along a power transmission line is what the customer expects. However, this is only one stage of the comprehensive vegetation management service on offer.
A properly carried out felling is preceded by an inventory of the network and obtaining the required permissions from the landowners as well as official decisions. Only then can the work begin. Thanks to the use of 21st century technology, this stage has been shortened to a minimum and can be completed even within one day. The process ends with a network flyover with laser scanning and generation of the final report. Full documentation is then sent to the customer.

The process of network inventory consists of preparatory and organizational works including :
  • establishment of GPS coordinates to plot the course of the network in QuantumGIS system
  • rozpoznanie terenu
  • oględziny stanu zadrzewienia linii
  • planowanie prac oraz potrzebnych wyłączeń sieci.
The administration process is the most demanding stage in felling trees along transmission lines. At this stage, landowner’s consents and administrative decisions on tree removal are obtained. Reliably prepared documentation enables efficient implementation of felling works in the field, minimising financial claims and image losses for the customer. The modern IT system implemented at Gamuza processes all arrangements with landowners, manages the correspondence flow and enables the monitoring of work progress. The professional execution of administrative activities is supervised by a team of experienced experts, who also take care of the execution of the order in compliance with the law.

The logging is based on the data obtained during the inventory and administration phases. The team of logging technicians uses the information recorded on the mobile devices and orthophotos. The completed felling and the cleaning points are then marked. The system also records the date when the next treatment is due. The system monitors the progress of work by means of counters: kilometres logged, kilometres to be cleaned and kilometres to be removed. Parallel to the technical work, correspondence from landowners regarding possible comments and complaints is handled. The information entered is forwarded to the technical division for implementation.

State-of-the-art technologies and tools are used to carry out the work, including a helicopter with an overhead saw, which is unique in the world, and ground machines for clearing the area, powered by biodegradable oils.

Helicopter flights over transmission lines
We review the work carried out using the most effective method, i.e. helicopter. It allows us to obtain the most accurate information about the detected threats from the vegetation. The process is supported by airborne laser scanning technology, which shows where vegetation is close to transmission lines. The vegetation map created in this process shows the height and area occupied by vegetation. Areas that require attention are indicated in the final reports.

By deploying an advanced tree felling management system, data from all stages of the service are combined into a single report, which is then sent to the customer.
