Emergency felling of trees along 100 km of high-voltage transmission lines

When? Where? Customer?
2018 Będzin District, Poland Tauron Dystrybucja S.A, Branch in Będzin

How? Challenges?
Using an MD 500 turbine helicopter with a suspended saw, which models the vegetation by creating green corridors along transmission facilities.
The helicopter with the saw cuts a corridor of greenery along a one-kilometre section of a fully forested line during one hour of work, which, compared to traditional methods, is equivalent to the work of about 120 arborists.
We were the first company in Poland to apply this technology.
  • High failure rate on the line due to growing tree branches.
  • Helicopter operation as a big logistic challenge - obtaining permits for helicopter flights, organizing a helipad, fueling, navigating and securing the area

What was the outcome?
A significant increase in work efficiency.
Shortly before the order, we developed and implemented "Health and Safety Instruction for Heli-Logging along Overhead Transmission Lines", and from then on this modern technology is approved by power companies in the country.
